In my comics, friends face caregiving, illness and death. OK, that sounds grim, but it isn't--not too much.
Most recently I drew a comic about my terminally ill neighbor who planned her end on her own schedule. It’s called Posey’s Plan: A Memoir of My Neighbor’s Timely Death. (Come to my presentation at the lightning round Saturday from 10:45 to 12:15 or visit my table on Thursday or Friday.)
Grief and difficulty are part of the stories but also strength, humor, and grace. I’m coming to the conference because I hope that those in comics and medicine will find these stories meaningful and hopeful, and resonant.
In my professional life, I’ve been a a photographer (mostly for labor unions), writer, and editor (Southern Exposure, In These Times).
